HIGHWAYS & TRANSPORT SERVICES

"We are not living in a world where all roads are radii of a circle and where all, if followed long enough, will therefore draw gradually nearer and finally meet at the centre: rather in a world where every road, after a few miles, forks into two, and each of those into two again, and at each fork, you must make a decision." - C. S. Lewis

Roads and highways faciliate trade, communication and, ultimately, development. NEWPLAN/s vision is participate in the development of our continent by providing expert consultancy services in the transportation sector.

IMPLEMENTATION OF AXLE LOAD CONTROL STRATEGIES ON THE NATIONAL ROAD NETWORK

NEWPLAN provided engineering services to UNRA (Uganda National Roads Authority) in Feasibility studies, Detailed investigations and Environmental studies.

Some project facts:

  • In Uganda, over 90% of goods and persons are transported by road, highlighting the importance of roads for Uganda's socio-economic development.
  • The roads carrying the traffic have been designed to carry a certain load. Many of the road designs are based on the legal limits for each vehicle axle that is predicted to roll over the road. Many of the vehicles using the roads have been loaded above the vehicle's design limit. Overloaded vehicles that have an axle load above the legal limit damage the road and thereby shorten its lifespan. Against this background, UNRA undertook to have a strategy to control axle loads.
